Donald A. Freeman, 90, of 14 Billings Road died Saturday 8/19/23 at home. He was born in Mount Desert, Maine on July 27, 1933, the son of Allen E. and Doris (Robbins) Freeman. He attended local schools in Maine and continued his education at the University of Maine, receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Economics.
Donald served in the United States Army as a First Lieutenant. He was particularly proud of completing Airborne School, earning his Parachutist Badge, and completing 62 jumps.
He was a Radio announcer at WTTT in Amherst for 20 years. He had his own show called Conversation where he interviewed many local people of interest. After retiring from radio, he later worked at New England Telephone as an operator. He then retired to devote his time and energy to his grandchildren. Da, as he was named by his grandchildren, enjoyed teaming with Memere, taking them to Look Park and countless drives around Western Mass. He said that was his best job ever.
Donald loved anything associated with radio. He traveled to every radio tower site in New England. He also enjoyed traveling to Atlantic Canada and Florida with his wife, Dorothy.
Donald had unlimited knowledge about the world. His family will miss the ability to call him at any time to learn incredible facts about almost any subject.
Among his survivors, Donald leaves a son, William Freeman and his wife Amy of Millers Falls; a daughter, Elizabeth Freeman of Montague; two grandchildren, Matthew and Jonathan Freeman of Millers Falls; two sisters, Janet Fortier of Portland, ME and Nancy Freeman of Yarmouth, ME; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Donald was predeceased by his beloved wife Dorothy (Beauregard) Freeman.
