Donald R. Avery Obituary

Donald R. Avery, 85, of Millers Falls Road died Wednesday 7/10/24 at home. He was born in Dummerston, VT on September 10, 1938, the son of Clifford and Lillian (Wheeler) Avery.
Donald was a hard working machinist at the Bendix Corporation, J.H.Smith and Valley Steel Stamp.
He enjoyed nature and was an avid hunter and fisherman. In his retirement he spent his weekends camping at Peppermint Park, in Plainfield Ma, enjoying time with his wife, family and friends.   Donald was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed all things sports.  He especially loved the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.  Up until 2010 you could hear him cheering from the sidelines for the men’s football leagues and was a MIAA umpire for local baseball & softball teams for 30 years. Most of all he enjoyed his time with his wife, children and grandchildren, having fun, playing cards, laughing with friends and eating a good meal.
Besides his beloved wife of fifty three years, Eileen (Phelps) Avery, Donald leaves a  daughter, Debra Klein and her husband Laurence of Greenfield; two sons, Richard  Avery and his wife Lara of Windham, VT and Brody Avery and his wife Jennifer of Montague; five  grandchildren, Bryce Avery, Tiffany (Angelo) Thomas , Allison Call, Julie (Juan) Gonzalez and Lynn (Jaime) Cabezas; six great grandchildren, Grayson, Savannah, Ayva, AJ, Jamie and Olivia; a brother, Michael  Avery and his wife Helen of Greenfield; a sister, Dottie Turner of Turners Falls; and  several nieces and nephews.
Donald was predeceased by six siblings.
A Private Celebration of Life will be held.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pioneer Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 329 Conway St. Greenfield, MA 01301.
A special thank you to Pioneer Valley Hospice for their care, to Dr. John McCann for his decades of service, and to Kostanski Funeral Home for taking care of arrangements.
