Cecile Anna (Ouellet) Chartier, 95 years old, of Turnpike Rd. passed away Wednesday April 24, 2024 at Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility. She was born in La Poca Tier, Quebec, Canada November 22, 1928 the daughter of David Ouellet and Yvonne Morin. Cecile was one of 16 children.

She was educated by the Sisters of Charity and was a nurse in Montreal where she graduated from L’ Hospital de la Misericorde in 1953.

In 1959 she met and married Wilfred Chartier. He died in 1980.

After her husband’s death Cecile was employed at the Farren Memorial Hospital mail room until its closing. From there she worked in the cafeteria at Hillcrest Elementary School until she retired. She was very active at the former St. Anne’s Church before 2007 where she was President of the St. Cecile Society for 10 years. Cecile enjoyed going to the local senior center where she did volunteer work for many years and enjoyed the activities.  She was an excellent seamstress, enjoyed crocheting and loved to cook. Cecile enjoyed helping people for she was a people person and enjoyed traveling, especially in Canada.

Cecile is survived by her son David.  She adored her step-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband she was predeceased by three step-children; Romeo Chartier in 1999, Rita LaChopell in 2010 and Della Wrobleski in 2023.

Visitation and sharing will be held Friday June 14, 2024 between 10 AM and 12 Noon at Kostanski Funeral Home 1 Kostanski Square Turners Falls. Burial will follow in St. Anne’s Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
