Catherine McGann Obituary

Catherine P. McGann, 91, of West Mountain Rd. in Bernardston, passed away Thursday December 30, 2021, at the Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility, after a brief stay. She was born January 12, 1930, in Stamford, CT., the daughter of Frank W. and Julia (Sheldon) Petty.
Catherine attended schools in Stamford, CT. graduating from Stamford High School Class of 1947.  She continued her education at Stamford Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1950 where she then worked as an operating room nurse.  Upon moving to the area, she worked at the Franklin County Public Hospital in Iron Lung.
Catherine met her future husband on a blind date set up by their best friends.  They were married July 5, 1952, sharing 68 years together until Don’s passing May 18, 2021, just shy of their 69th anniversary.
Prior to raising their family together Don and Catherine were a fixture with Bud and June Foster catering meals or roast beef dinners for the United Church of Bernardston for many years.  They had a passion for baking, especially around Christmas time when they mad 200 dozen or more cookies for family, friends and neighbors.
Until cognitive issues made it too difficult, they loved to travel visiting forty nine of fifty states missing only Hawaii.  They traveled to Canada as well.  Many of the trips were tied into visits with Don, Jr. during his time in baseball and Robert’s family especially once the twins arrived.  Her unique sense of humor and outlook on life will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
Catherine is survived by her two sons, Donald Jr. of Bernardston, and Robert (Kim) McGann of Colorado; her grandson Christopher, granddaughter Molly, a niece Roberta (McGann) and Chuck Borden; nephews Charles, William, and Robert all of CT; A sister Ann Germano; nieces Amy Germano (Shin) Miyoski, Mary Ellen Stien.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother-in-law Leonard Germano.
The family would like to thank Rev. David Neil and the staff at the Kostanski Funeral Home for their help and guidance through this final chapter.
In keeping with Catherine’s wishes, there will be no funeral services.  Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Town of Bernardston Cushman Park Tree Replacement, Attn: Louis Bordeaux, P.O. Box 504 Bernardston, MA 01337.
