Caroline B. (Rand) Coughlin, 90, a Greenfield resident since 1962, passed away peacefully on April 14th. Born on July 31st, 1931, the daughter of Warren and Madeline (Lenfest) Rand of Old Town, ME. She was one of seven children.
Caroline graduated from Old Town High School as an honor student in the Class of 1949. After graduation, she worked for the Bangor Hydro Electric Company in both the Old Town and Bangor offices. She was married to husband Paul Coughlin on June 19th 1954 at the Newman Chapel of University of Maine – Orono where he attended college.
In 1963, Paul and Caroline moved to Greenfield where they raised a family of five children. Caroline was involved in all of their children’s activities including band, athletics, Girls and Boy Scouts and served as a Scout Leader and Den Mother. She also worked for more than 40 years at Wilson’s Department Store in downtown Greenfield.
Caroline and family were communicants of Blessed Sacrament Church. She was a long serving member of the sanctuary choir. She was also an adorer in the adoration chapel of Blessed Sacrament.
Caroline is predeceased by her husband, Paul who passed on December 25th, 2000, having been married for 46 years. She is also predeceased by daughter, Kathleen Lancto who passed on November 30, 2001; her brothers James and Warren Rand, Sister Barbara Walsh and her brother in laws David Dearing, Walter Smith and Arthur Walsh.
Her surviving children include Anne Henry (Jay) of Conway, SC., Michael Coughlin (Margaret) of Orlando, FL., Christine Dunn (Brian) of Sudbury, MA., and Matthew Coughlin (Brenda) of Elberta, AL. She leaves a surviving brother, William Rand of Old Saybrook, CT., sisters Doris Dearing of Bangor, ME., and Bertrice Smith of Southbridge, MA. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Caroline was the proud Grandparent for 11 grandchildren to include Jenna, Patrick, David, Joseph, Christopher, Brian, Matthew, William, Colleen, Maryanne and Chase. She was also a Great Grandparent of seven.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday 4/20 at 10am at Blessed Sacrament Church, 221 Federal Street, Greenfield. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Greenfield.
A calling hour will be held Wednesday morning from 8:45am to 9:45am at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal Street, Greenfield.
