Bruce Leon Bezio, 73, of 19 Maple Avenue, died Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at home surrounded by his family after a long and valiant battle with cancer.
He was born on September 28, 1947 and was the son of Leon and Grace (Powling) Bezio. He grew up in Erving and attended Mahar Regional High and transferred to Greenfield Vocational High School, where he graduated in 1965.
Bruce was a Vietnam Veteran and was in Vietnam from January 15, 1969 to August 20, 1970.
He married the love of his life and wife of 49 years, Donna (Rose) Bezio, on April 19, 1972.
Bruce was a member of Carpenters Local 336 for 42 years. He was a member of the Greenfield MA Moose Lodge 997 for 34 years, the Montague Elks for 39 years, the American Legion Orange Post #172 for 39 years and the Orange Gun Club.
Bruce played softball for many years and also enjoyed hunting, fishing, NASCAR, the races at Monadnock Speedway, storage auctions and tag sales. He also spent time bowling both 10 pin and candlepin over the years. He always supported his Granddaughter Catherine G. Bezio and her variety of interests. He loved to hear her sing.
Besides his wife Donna, Bruce leaves his beloved sons, Robert L. Bezio and his wife Laura and Duane A. Bezio all of Erving. He also leaves his Granddaughter Catherine G. Bezio, his sister Debra Holmes of Turners Falls and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Leon and Grace Bezio, his brother Francis “Sonny” Bezio, and his sisters Beverly Howard and Judy Ward.
The family would like to thank Hospice, especially his nurse Annette for their care in the past few months.
A graveside service with military honors will be held Saturday (10-2-21) at 11AM at Erving Center Cemetery. There will be no calling hours, per his request.
