Brian Wasielewski Obituary

Brian M. Wasielewski, 73, of Montague City Rd. in Turners Falls, passed away at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield on February 27, 2024. He was born on February 22, 1951, in Greenfield, MA, to Walter and Bernice (Desautels) Wasielewski.

Brian attended school in Turners Falls and graduated from Turners Falls High School in 1970. While in high school, Brian worked part-time at the Oxford Foods pickle plant in Deerfield, MA. Upon graduating from High School, he went to work for the Rodney Hunt Company in Orange, MA. He started as a welder and then moved to operating the melt furnaces. He was eventually promoted to foreman of the melt area and served in that role until his retirement in 2017 when the company shut down that department.

He married Karen A. (Legere) on June 10, 1972. They had one son, Michael, in 1977.

Brian loved the outdoors and sports. During his high school years, he hunted and fished with his grandfather, Ted Marziarz, his friends, and his siblings. He played in the Turners Falls men’s softball league, and he coached his son’s little league baseball team. Brian, Karen, and Michael spent many summers boating on the Connecticut River where they made many lasting memories and friendships.

Brian and Karen supported their son Michael’s participation in many music ensembles by driving Michael to practices in New Hampshire, traveling to watch performances, organizing, and participating in many fundraisers, driving equipment vehicles across the country, and cooking many meals for the ensembles. Brian was one of the founders of the Turners Falls High School Band Boosters in the early 1990s.

Brian loved to travel.  Cruising took Brian and Karen to Alaska, the Panama Canal, Mexico, Central America, and many islands in the Caribbean. Brian also loved to play golf. He was a member of the Thomas Memorial Golf and Country Club where he also served for many years on the Board of Directors.

He leaves his wife Karen, and his son Michael and daughter-in-law Kristen of Ashland, MA. He also leaves his siblings; Beverly Sibley, Carol (Butch) Tobey, Theodore (Lynn) Wasielewski, Richard (Terri) Wasielewski, Robert Wasielewski, and his step-siblings John Bourbeau, Gary (Mary) Bourbeau and Debra Quedar along with many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father, Walter, in 1961, his mother, Bernice, in 2022, and his stepfather, Robert Bourbeau, in 1994.
