Betty L. (Wiles) Rice

Betty L. (Wiles) Rice, 87, of River Road passed away Friday, April 15, 2022, at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.  She was born in Deerfield on November 1, 1934, the daughter of George and Margaret (Pearson) Wiles.  Betty attended Deerfield Schools through 1951 and graduated from Greenfield High School in 1952.

She married Daniel B. Rice at Robbins Memorial Church in Greenfield on April 18, 1953.  They were married 44 years until his death on December 1, 1997.

She worked at Alberti’s Restaurant for many years until becoming the Assistant Treasurer for the Town of Greenfield.  She then became the Town Accountant for the Town of Greenfield.  She retired from the Town of Greenfield after 25 years.  She also served on the Greenfield Board of Retirement and the Insurance Advisory Committee until 2020.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister Sylvia Jackson.

She leaves her children Ronald Rice (Carolee) of Daytona Beach, FL, Debra Allen (Robert) of Bernardston, Daniel Rice of South Deerfield, Randolph Rice (Sandy Bennett) of West Hatfield and Timothy Rice (Kathy Colby) of Greenfield.  She also leaves 14 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and one great great grandson.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday April 22, 12:00pm at United Church of Bernardston.  Burial will be private and at the convenience of her family.
