Betty Anderson Obituary

Betty Ann (Clark) Anderson, 88, passed away in Tampa, FL, on August 22, 2022. Betty was born February 10th, 1934, the daughter of Althea (Mackenzie) Clark and Francis H. (Harry) Clark, in Greenfield, MA.
She married her high school sweetheart, Andrew (Andy) Anderson, on May 8th, 1952, just before graduation. They eloped before he was sent to Alaska to serve in the first assignment of what would become a 21-year Air Force career. The Air Force brought them to assignments in California, Texas, Massachusetts, Florida, Germany, Okinawa and the Philippines. They went on to have three daughters together, ultimately residing in Bernardston, MA.
Betty was a working mom before it was popular—from housekeeping on the weekends at the Highland House Motel in North Truro, to her retirement at age 74 as office manager of the MSPCC in Greenfield, she had a varied and interesting career. Betty was also a deeply involved volunteer at the Greenfield Elks Emblem club, raising thousands of dollars over the years during artfully crafted events and fundraisers that supported worthy causes.
In addition to her dedication to her family and community, Betty was also a generous and loyal friend. Well into their 70s, she and a group of her high school girlfriends—no matter where they were living at the time—would gather for lunch every year on May 1st.
Betty and Andy were married for 54 years. He passed away on his birthday in 2006, at the age of 74. She is also predeceased by her brother Francis Clark, and beloved grandson Cyle Winseck.
She leaves behind her sister Shirley Seaman, brother Earle Clark, and her three daughters: Marda Bartel (and husband Patrick) of Austin, TX, Larissa Daigle (and partner Michael Platt) of Tierra Verde, FL, and Andrea Winseck of Greenfield, MA. She also leaves grandchildren CarlaJean Valluzzi (and husband Fitz) and Mackenzie Daigle, along with her cherished great grandchildren Halcyon, Marshall, Robert, and Amelia, and many generations of nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed.
Betty was a dedicated mother and grandmother, a generous community volunteer, and a loyal friend. She will be remembered for her grace, kindness, and eternal optimism. She was the personification of “grit,” possessing both a passion and perseverance that allowed her to thrive through countless challenges, emerging unscathed and ready to face a new day.
A memorial service will be held at Kostanski Funeral Home 220 Federal St, in Greenfield, MA, Saturday, October 15 at 10am, with interment to follow at West Leyden Cemetery.
