Arnold “Arnie” Houle, age 76, a longtime resident of Turners Falls, passed away peacefully in his home on June 22, 2025. Arnold was born in Ashuelot, New Hampshire on December 13, 1948 to Joseph P. and Fern E. (Hall) Houle. Arnold spent much of his life surrounded by horses. He began his career as a trainer for his uncle at Houle’s Farm Stable in Montague, MA. He then started his own stable, working as both a standardbred trainer and driver. He raced throughout the greater New England circuit. He was a former member of the New England Standardbred Association. After retiring from racing, he worked for Yankee Candle Company in South Deerfield, MA and operated Arnie’s Wholesale in Turners Falls, MA. He is survived by his siblings; Joseph A. (Sharon) Houle of Shady Point, OK; Mary Schetter of Priest River, ID; Mona Dudley of Greenfield, MA; Paul Houle Turners Falls, MA; Donna (Roger) Ellis of Vernon, VT; Bernadette Stewart of Greenfield, MA; Eli (Cindy) Houle of Athol, MA; and many nieces and nephews.

Arnold was preceded in death by his parents Joseph P. and Fern E. (Hall) Houle as well has his siblings Fern A. (Houle) Gallison and David L. Houle.

Services are private and at the convenience of his family. He will be interred in Elm Grove Cemetery in Montague, MA at a later date.
