Arlene Milowski Obituary

Arlene Loretta (Tetreault) (Ryan) Milowski, age 91, died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on April 3, 2023.  She was born in Agawam on February 11, 1932, the daughter of the late Philip A. Tetreault and Rosealba E. Brunelle.  Arlene was one of seven children.  She attended local schools in Colrain and Greenfield and was a graduate of Greenfield High School Class of 1950.
Arlene married Thomas Patrick Ryan on October 25, 1952.  Tom was in the Navy, so they did a lot of travelling.  They had five children during their marriage.  Unfortunately, their son Jeffrey died less than 24 hours after his birth.
Arlene started working at the Garden Theater in Greenfield while still in high school.  After graduation, she worked as a key punch operator at the Greenfield Tap & Die.  Arlene stopped working there while married to Thomas to raise her four children. After her divorce, she went back to work at the Tap & Die for another twenty four years, until her retirement. It was there she met the love of her life, Charles Milowski.
She later married Charlie at their home in Greenfield on August 11, 1979.  They were very happily married for twenty eight years until his unexpected death on January 30, 2007.  He was a wonderful husband, friend and great step father to Arlene’s children.
Arlene and Charlie started their married life in Greenfield and then spent the rest of their life in Turners Falls, raising her four children.  They very much enjoyed going to Maine a couple times a year and taking drives to New Hampshire and Vermont.  They went to the Lost River Gorge and Boulder Caves, up to the White Mountains, along the Kancamgus Highway, Lake Champlain and Shelburne, Vermont. They had a great time whenever and wherever they went driving. Arlene was the driver and Charlie was the navigator.  When in Maine, they enjoyed the towns of Wells and Ogunquit, whether it was to a show, a walk along Marginal Way or just enjoying the scenery and company of each other. They also enjoyed the times they spent with her sister Shirley and her husband Marcel.
Arlene, Charlie, Marcel and Shirley were a close-knit foursome and enjoyed spending time together. They took trips to Maine and had a great time playing cards.  Arlene enjoyed knitting afghans for all her children and grandchildren and spending time with her family.  She enjoyed being outside and going for walks, baking, reading and doing word search puzzles.  She enjoyed looking at the flowers and the beautiful colors and watching the birds and squirrels as they came to the feeders to eat.  In the summer many years ago, for many years she enjoyed picking strawberries alongside her daughter Kathy and helped make strawberry jam, which she loved.
During the last five years of ill health, she was cared for by Nicole Stebbins, who went above and beyond her job to care for Arlene. Arlene loved her and they had a great time together.  The laughs and the memories we will always have.
Arlene is survived by her children: sons, Daniel Ryan of Turners Falls, Michael Ryan of Northfield and Douglas Ryan of Turners Falls; her daughter, Kathleen Helms and her husband Wayne of Turners Falls; five grandchildren, Brett Ormond (Jessica) of Maine, Christopher Ryan (Morgan) of New Mexico, Elizabeth Ryan of England, Katie Nadeau of New Hampshire and Derek Helms of Turners Falls; and three great grandchildren, Oliva Ryan of New Mexico and Keaton and Brice Ormond of Maine.
Besides her parents, Philip and Rosealda Tetreault, Arlene was predeceased by her husband Charles Milowski in 2007; a son, Jeffrey Ryan on February 12, 1959; four brothers, Robert Tetreault, a World War II Veteran killed in action, Ernest Tetreault of Greenfield, Philip A. Tetreault of Turners Falls and Raymond Tetreault of Tuscan, AZ; two sisters, Elizabeth Underwood of Greenfield and Shirley Nadeau of Southampton.
