Alberta Mae (Whittemore) Allen

Alberta Mae (Whittemore) Allen, 97, of Newell Pond Rd. passed away Monday November 21, 2022, at Baystate Franklin Medical Center. She was born in Brattleboro Vermont May 11, 1925, the daughter of Bert and Miriam (Ledrew) Whittemore.

Alberta attended local schools and graduated from Brattleboro High School in 1943. She was a stay at home mom who enjoyed taking care of her children. Previously she had worked for American Opticals for a period of time.

She was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. Alberta enjoyed crocheting, knitting, watching birds, crosswords, reading, collecting dolls and square dancing.

She married her husband Richard Maitland Allen December 30, 1943. Sadly, he passed away in 2003 after 59 years together.

Alberta leaves her children; Kathryn Allen Hassell (Don) of League City, TX, Richard Maitland Allen Jr. (Jean) of Canton, MI, Patricia Allen Maleno (Frank) of Elizabeth City, NC, Barbara  Rawson-Whiteman (Michael Whiteman) of Becket, MA, Michele Allen Pratt of Gill, MA and a son in-law Bruce A. Hosley of Nassau, NY; her grandchildren; Rochelle Hosley (Debbie), Kristin Hosley Taylor (Steve), Jason Hassell (Carolyn), Jeffery Hassell (Rachel), Janeen Mendal, Richard C. Allen, Meghan Maleno Seaman (Mark), Kelly Maleno Oldham (Brandon), Jonah Rawson and Logan Pratt. Alberta also leaves 8 great grandchildren, four step grandchildren, a brother in-law Albert E. Allen Jr and a sister in-law Dorothy Allen Arsenault plus many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband Alberta was predeceased by a daughter Linda Joy Allen Hosley in 2013.

A funeral service will be held Saturday November 26, 2022 at 12 NOON at the Trinitarian Congregational Church in Northfield, MA. Burial will follow in Meeting House Hill Cemetery in Brattleboro, VT.

 Calling hours will be held Saturday morning from 9 AM – 11 AM at Kostanski Funeral Home 1 Kostanski Square in Turners Falls.
