Vincent "Bill" A Mroz

February 18, 1924 ~ August 14, 2017 (age 93) 93 Years Old

Greenfield----Vincent “Bill” A. Mroz, 93, died Monday (8-14-17) at home. He was born in Greenfield the son of Wencenty and Antonina (Lapinska) Mroz. He was a lifelong resident of Greenfield.

Bill was educated in local schools and was a graduate of GHS in 1942. He enlisted in the Marines in 1943 and was schooled at Camp Lejeune as a field electrician. Bill attained the rank of Corporal. He participated in action in Saipan, Tinian, Okinawa and first occupational troops in Nagasaki, Japan. He was discharged in Jan. 1946.

Bill was an electrician having worked for Purple and Stotz Electric Companies. He received his 50 year pin from the Local IBEW in 2005 and was Supervisor of buildings and grounds for the Greenfield School System for 11 years until retirement in 1987. He was very active in the former Sacred Heart Church and Mater Dolorosa Cemetery

Bill was an avid tennis player and skier, having started both when he was quite young. He liked to travel and in addition to his WWII experience, visited six other countries with his wife. He was an accomplished carpenter, having built their own home.

Bill is survived by his wife, Marie Himmelsbach of 64 years, his children, Ralph (Barbara) Mroz of Greenfield and daughter Judith “Dee” Mroz ( Anthony Copas) of Shrewsbury,  a grandson Nicholas  Mroz, and a brother, Roman (Barbara) Nowak, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his parents, 3 brothers, Charles, Mitch, Chester, and 2 sisters Jenny Flynn and Helen Caouette, and six step siblings.

Funeral service will be Saturday (8-19-17) at 9:15am from the Kostanski Funeral Home 220 Federal St. followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10am at Our Lady of Peace Church 90 Seventh St. Turners Falls. Burial will follow in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery in Greenfield. Calling hours will be Friday (8-18-17) from 4-6pm at the funeral home.
