Sophie "Betty" (Dziema) Bourret

Millers Falls-------Sophie “Betty” (Dziema) Bourret, 100, of Millers Falls died Friday (3-2-18) at the Center for Extended Care at Amherst.

She was born in Millers Falls April 15, 1917 the daughter of Frank and Tekla Dziema.

Betty attended local schools and graduated from Turners Falls High School Class of 1935.

She worked at the White Swan Beauty Shop in Millers Falls for many years alongside her sisters, Stephie Warsawski and Mary Zschau. In 1989 Betty was predeceased by Jean "Bernie" Bourret of Gardner, her husband of 48 years, a loving family man and WW2 vet serving in the Yankee Division.

Betty enjoyed gardening, baking, trips to casinos with friends and family, spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren, tag sales and making those around her howl with laughter. Betty was a very creative person who braided rugs, caned chairs, made wine and sewed anything. She was the anchor of her family and will be missed.

Survivors include her children: Susan Ciancarelli and her children, Lisa Ciancarelli of New Jersey and her husband Steve Edgeller, their children, A.J. and  Sabrina Knapp, Marc Ciancarelli and his daughter Madison Ciancarelli of New Zealand, Larry and wife Susan Valentine of Leverett and their children, Todd Bourret and his partner Jen Liu of Staten Island, Allison Bourret Lawrence and her husband, Ben and their children, Charles and Cecily of Brooklyn and Emily Valentine Kaufman of Leverett and David and his wife Valerie of Hingham, their children, Elizabeth Bourret and her husband Alexander Mount of Ashland, Virginia and Victoria Bourret of Washington, D.C. and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial be held Monday (3-5-18) at 11 am at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Czestochowa Cemetery. A calling hour will from 9:30am – 10:30 am at Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square, Turners Falls.
