Richard R. Slauenwhite

TURNERS FALLS — Richard “Dick” R. Slauenwhite, 72, of James Avenue died Thursday (1-18-18) peacefully at home. He was born in Greenfield, the son of Raymond and Yvette (Perry) Slauenwhite.

Dick graduated from Turners Falls High School class of 1963. He entered the US Navy in 1964, attaining the rank of E6 First Class Petty Officer. He served on destroyers and nuclear submarines and was honorably discharged in 1970.

Dick went on to work at the Northfield Mountain Project prior to joining Vermont Yankee, where he worked for over 30 years, retiring as a Senior Reactor Operator Instructor.

As a leader of Hell’s Elders, Dick enjoyed riding his motorcycle to historical sites, national parks, and all 48 continental states. He was a longtime member of Crumpin Fox Golf Course and a founding member of the Montague Elks. He loved spending time with his five grandchildren, IPAs, and Biker Breakfast.

He leaves his wife of 51 years, Diane (Kahle) Formerly of South Deerfield, Mass., his two daughters Tina Hartwell and her husband Rob of Grafton, Mass., and Kimberly Gregg of Stow, Mass., his grandchildren, Ethan, Jaden, Tanner, Ava and Troy. Dick also leaves his sisters, Diane Jones and her husband Tom of Lucas, TX, and Debbie Mumblo and her partner Steve Mitchell of Northfield, Mass., and tons of nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Dale Slauenwhite.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Franklin County for their support.

Calling hours will be from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday (1-26-18) immediately followed by the Funeral Service at 12 noon at Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square, Turners Falls, Mass. Burial will

follow at St. Anne’s Cemetery in Turners Falls..
