Greenfield----Richard G. Nelson, 90, of Thayer Rd. Ext. died Friday (8/4/17) at Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility.

He was born in Tewksbury, MA on May 25, 1927 and he was raised in Gloucester, MA by his grandmother and uncle.  After high school, he attended Wentworth Institute of Technology and then Northeastern College, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.

He was a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran attaining the rank of Seaman 1st Class V-6.  He was honorably discharged and received a WWII Victory Medal.

Richard retired as a Civil Engineer at Warner Bros and after retiring, he worked at Davenport Trucking.  Richard enjoyed skiing, golfing, bicycling and running. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol and Ski Patrol but his life long passion was building glider model airplanes.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, the former Joyce Evelyn Mack, his Step-Sons Todd Emery and his wife Heidi of Southampton, MA, and Mark Emery of Inverness, FL, his Step-Daughters Lisa McGuinness and her husband Brett of Greenfield, MA and Cynthia Emery and her partner Deborah DeBare of North Kingstown, RI.

Richard also leaves many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his son, John Nelson, on February 4, 2013.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
