Nicholas Prokowich

January 22, 1929 ~ September 24, 2017 (age 88) 88 Years Old

Turners Falls----Nicholas Prokowich, 88, of Vladish Ave. died Sunday (9-24-17) at home. He was born in Greenfield Jan. 22, 1929 the son of Wasil and Dora (Urko) Prokowich.

Nick attended local schools and was a 1946 graduate of Greenfield High School. He started his career  as machinist at Millers Falls Tool Co. after high school . He went to serve his country shortly after that, during the Korean War. Nick attained the rank of MM2 (T) in the US NAVY. He served aboard the USS MONTAGUE AKA-98. Nick received the China Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with 2 Stars, Good Conduct Medal, United Nations Medal and the Navy Occupations Medal. He was honorably discharged Sept. 25, 1952.

Upon returning for the service Nick returned to Millers Falls Tool Co. for28 years working his way up to Master Tool and Die Maker. He went on to Hassey Savage and Precision Tool for a few years then to Vt. Yankee as a Senior Plant Mechanic. He retired in 1994.

Nick enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors.

He was a Mason, being very involved with the Harmony Masonic Lodge and being a member for 60 years.

Nick leaves his children, Stephen and his wife Mary, Cheryl Clark and her husband Paul all of Gill. Grandchildren, Aubrey Vallee and her husband Mark, Justin Prokowich, Evan Prokowich, Nick Clark, Tyler Clark and his wife Jenna, a sister Olga Longo of South Windsor, CT and several nieces and nephews .

He was predeceased by his wife the former Noreen( Powers) and his brother John.

Funeral service will be held Friday (9-29-17) at 9:15 AM at Kostanski Funeral Home 1 Kostanski Square followed by funeral services at 10 AM at The Churches of St. James and Andrews 8 Church St. Greenfield, MA. Burial will follow in Green River Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Thursday (9-28-17) from 4-6PM at the funeral home. A Masonic Evergreen Service will be held at 5 PM at the funeral home in Turners Falls.
