Margaret M. (Sowell) Bourbeau, 91, formerly of 54 Avenue A, Turners Falls, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family on November 19, 2018, at the Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility in Greenfield.
She was born in Montague, Massachusetts on December 11, 1926, the daughter of Thomas J. and Dorothy (Farmer) Sowell.
Margaret attended local schools in Turners Falls. In August of 1943, she wed Leonard F. Bourbeau, and they were married for 58 years.
As a young woman, Margaret had worked for a time at Wilson's department store in Greenfield, and in later years at The Bement School in Deerfield. Margaret was a loving mother, homemaker, wife, grandmother and friend. She was a woman of strong faith, and for many years was a member of Turners Falls Baptist Church. Margaret at one time played the piano, a favorite of hers was the "Tennessee Waltz." She enjoyed tag sales and flea markets.
Margaret leaves three children in Massachusetts; Beverly Jennings of Norwood, Barbara Gibson of Orange, and a son Brent Bourbeau of Turners Falls. Survivors also include a brother, Thomas J. Sowell, Jr., of Shreveport, Louisiana; eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Leonard F. Bourbeau in 2001, and a half brother Lawrence T. Sowell in 1988.
A Graveside service is planned for Friday 10/11/19 at 10am at Springdale Cemetery, Turnpike Rd. Turners Falls, MA 01376.
