Louise Mroz Obituary

Louise M. (Ball) Mroz, 97, passed away on December 11, 2018 in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her family, following a period of declining health. A lifelong resident of Greenfield, Louise was born at home, on February 5, 1921, the daughter of Ernest and Iola (Andrew) Ball. After graduating from Greenfield High School Class of 1938, she was employed at the Millers Falls Tool Company.
Louise married her high school sweetheart, Mitchel Mroz, after his discharge from the Army and spent forty three years in the house they built, with the help of his brother Bill, before Mitch's passing in 1989.
After her children were in school, Louise went back to work in the Greenfield School cafeterias and worked on the Head Start lunch programs during the summers, retiring as Head Baker at the High School in 1983.
She was an active member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary #417, obtaining the positions of Secretary, ladies Auxiliary #417 President, past District 13 President and past County Council President.
She enjoyed her family, especially her two granddaughters, knitting, reading, playing games on her Kindle, watching sports on TV, especially the Yankees. She loved taking short trips with Mitch.
Louise was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Greenfield, and then at Our Lady of Peace Church in Turners Falls.
Besides her parents, Louise was predeceased by her husband, Mitchel Mroz, and her brother, Bill Ball and his wife Reathal of Indiana.
Among her survivors, Louise leaves her loving and devoted children, a son, Mitch, Jr. and his partner Lynn Olson of Amherst; a daughter, Betty Mroz, with whom she resided; two granddaughters, Jennifer Mroz of Eugene, OR and Hilary Mroz-Blythe and her husband C.B. of Leverett; her extended family, including Sandra Fitzpatrick and her husband Dennis of Leverett and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Louise's family would like to thank LifePath; Cindy and Cheryl of Porchlight; and everyone at the Hospice of Franklin County, especially her "favorite" nurse, Michelle, and aide, Deb. She wouldn't have been able to stay in her home without their support and compassion. Also, a special thank you to Jeanne Nietsche for her Friday hair visits.
At Louise's request, there will be no calling hours.
Funeral services will be held Saturday December 22 at 9:15am from the Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square, Turners Falls followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10am at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church. Burial will follow at Mater Dolorosa Cemetery in Greenfield.
