Kathleen C. (Currie) Hallaran

December 3, 1919 ~ September 22, 2017 (age 97) 97 Years Old

Greenfield- Kathleen C. (Currie) Hallaran, 97, passed peacefully, Friday 9/22/17 at the Buckley Health Care Center in Greenfield. 

 

She was born in Millers Falls on December 3, 1919, the daughter of Alexander and Margaret (Breslin) Currie.  Kathleen was a graduate of Turners Falls High School in 1937.

 

She resided in Miami, FL during WWII and was employed by the Air Transport Command. She did clerical work and was a USO entertainer. While there, she greeted and came in contact with many well know personalities.  The most important person she met was Richard E. Hallaran whom she later married back in her hometown of Millers Falls in May 1945. After the war, they resided briefly in Millers, then moved to Richard’s hometown of Cleveland, OH.

 

She always said she retired 3 times.  She was an accountant/office manager for the J. Clytel Manufacturing Company, also attending college to further her accounting knowledge.  She retired in 1983. She then went to work for the Young Regulator Company, retiring again in 1989. Kathleen and Richard then relocated back to Western Mass seemingly to retire, however Kathleen went back to work again for the Career Center in Greenfield.  

 

Kathleen enjoyed crossword puzzles, poetry, writing, tag sales and trips to the casino with friends and family.

 

Kay’s family would like to express their gratitude to the many people at Buckley Healthcare Center who gave her love and kindness as well as care for the four years she called it home.  Thanks also to the Hospice of Franklin County.

 

Among her survivors, Kay leaves a daughter, Mary Kate of Turners Falls; two grandchildren, David DiTirro and Jennifer DiTirro; three great grandchildren, Gabriel, Audrey and Austin; two sisters-in-law, Blanche Currie of Granby and Jean Graff of Wisconsin; a brother-in-law, Robert Fathauer; and many nieces and nephews.

 

Kay was predeceased by her husband Richard E. Hallaran in 1997 and brothers, John, Ross and Roy Currie, sisters, Margaret Lynch, Eileen MacKinnon and Mary Jean Currie.

 

Funeral services will be held Thursday 9/28 at 9:15am from the Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square, Turners Falls followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10am at Our Lady of Peace Church, 90 Seventh Street, Turners Falls.  Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Turners Falls.  

 

Calling hours will be held Wednesday evening from 5-7pm at the funeral home.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Warm the Children, c/o The Recorder, 14 Hope Street, Greenfield, MA 01301 or to Buckley Health Care Facility Activities Fund, 95 Laurel Street, Greenfield, MA 01301.
