Joyce E. Stowell

Joyce E. Stowell, 84, of Congress Street died Thursday 11/15/18 at the Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. She was born in Virgil, NY on November 22, 1933, the daughter of Wesley and Bertha (Wentzel) Stowell. Joyce attended local schools in New York and continued her education at Greenfield Community College, receiving her Associate's Degree.
She was a telephone operator for many years at the Bell Telephone Company in Greenfield.
Joyce started Second Helpings in Greenfield and was instrumental in helping the homeless, crocheting blankets and taking care of those in need. She was founder of the Franklin County Friends of the homeless; Director of the Greenfield Thermal Imager Fund, raising funds for two Cairns IRIs; a member of the Pioneer Valley Symphony and Chorus, the Greenfield Community College Chorus, and the Senior Center Knit and Crochet Group. Joyce was active in the Junior Branch and the Greenfield Follies.
Among her survivors, Joyce leaves two daughters, Elaine Williams and Lisa Milliman, both of Texas; and a grandson, John Wesley Williams.
She was predeceased by her siblings, Wesley Stowell and Charlotte Goff.
Funeral service are private. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
