Greenfield- Joyce A. Alex, 79, died Thursday 3/9/17 at home.  She was born in Greenfield on May 2, 1937, the daughter of Ernest P. and Beatrice (Lamoureau) Alex.   She attended grade school at Abercrombie School in “Bingville” and was a graduate of Greenfield High School Class of 1955. 

After working at the Erving Paper Mill, Joyce attended the Shepher/Gill School of Practical Nursing in Boston and went on from there to work at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and Cushing State Hospital in Framingham.  She then returned to Greenfield, where she worked at the Farren Memorial Hospital and at the Franklin Nursing Home for many years. 

Joyce made her home with her sister, Eloise Alex for forty six years.  In early years, they vacationed to Florida, Las Vegas, the Cape, Pennsylvania Dutch Country and places in Canada including Ottawa, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.  In later years, they enjoyed trips to Atlantic City and Foxwoods.

Joyce enjoyed following the Red Sox and Patriots on TV, long walks with her dog, Megan, and the company of the family cat, Boots.  She was fond of reading, especially history, and crossword puzzles. 

Among her survivors, Joyce leaves her sister, Eloise Alex; cousins, Karen Fitzpatrick, Linda Koonz and Dennis Koonz; lifelong friends, Charlotte Bryant, Jeanne Clark and Marlene Terounzo, all of Greenfield.

Joyce was predeceased by her brother, Edward P. Alex, Jr. and a cousin, Virginia Koonz.

Funeral services will be private.   Burial will be held at the convenience of the family at Green River Cemetery in Greenfield.
