Shelburne Falls- John F. Gesin, 73, of Highland Ave died Tuesday 8/22/17 in Greenfield.  He was born in Patterson, NJ on June 17, 1944, the son of John and Helen (Goredes) Gesin.  John was a graduate of Hawthorne High School and continued his education at the Lincoln Technical Institute in Newark, NJ.   John was proud to serve six years in the New Jersey National Guard in Aberdeen, MD, obtaining the rank of Motor Sergeant.    

 

John was a heavy equipment mechanic at the Mackin Fuel Company for over forty years before his retirement in 2009, where many of his co-workers became his lifelong friends.

John  served as an active member of Trinity Church in Shelburne Falls. He participated in various committees, using his technical skills to assist in many building improvement projects and repairs.

John had a true love for animals, both his own and any he encountered.  He enjoyed taking family summer beach trips to Hampton Beach in New Hampshire, where many fond memories were created.  John adored his grandchildren and cherished the time he spent with them.

Among his survivors, John leaves two daughters, Karen Walker and her husband Steven of Shelburne Falls and Gail Gesin of Charlotte, NC; and three grandchildren, Ashley, Ryan and Kate.  He also leaves his beloved cat, Gracie.

John and his family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to those who provided excellent care including Benjamin Woodard of Valley Medical Group, Overlook VNA,  Hospice of Franklin County and the Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility.  They would also like to thank Linda Rowland, who  provided loving care that truly made a difference at the end of his journey.

Funeral services will be held at Trinity Church, 17 Severance Street, Shelburne Falls on Monday, August 28th at 10am with long time friend and neighbor, Rev. Mick Comstock, officiating.  Burial will be held at the convenience of the family at Laurel Grove Cemetery in Patterson, NJ.

There will be no calling hours.
