James R. Knightly

April 29, 1937 ~ July 8, 2018 (age 81)

Greenfield-----James R. Knightly, 81, of Little Ave. passed away Sunday (7-8-18) at home.

He was born in Northampton April 29, 1937 the son of Walter and Mary (Kuzmeski) Knightly.

 

Jim attended local schools and was a graduate of Amherst High School class of 1955. He worked at the Physical Plant at UMASS, Amherst for 32 years retiring in 1999.

Jim served his country in the US Air Force from 1955-1959.

 

He enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, attending his grandchildren’s sport events, watching sporting events on TV, especially all the New England teams. He was also an animal lover, especially of his dogs, Smokey, Shultzie and Sebastian and enjoyed being a “Snowbird” in Port Charlotte Florida. While in Florida Jim was a member of the Moose, Lodge #2121 in Port Charlotte.

 

He leaves his wife of 44 years the former Carol Hale, his daughters; Tina Knightly, Dawn Korenewsky and her husband Fred Jr., Angela Kelly, Susan Emond and her husband Eric and his grandchildren, Alexandria Korenewsky, Avery Korenewsky, Brendan Emond and Troy Emond.

 

 Jim also leaves his sister, Mary Jane Drake (Robert) of Amherst and his brother, Thomas Knightly (Dorothy) of Amherst and his sister-in-law Joan Knightly of Amherst. He was predeceased by his brother Walter Jr.

 

Jim also leaves many nieces and nephews.

 

A memorial service will be held Tuesday (7-17-18) at 10 AM at Kostanski Funeral Home 220 Federal St. Greenfield. Burial will follow in Green River Cemetery.

Callings will be Monday (7-16-18) from 5-7 PM at the funeral home.

 

In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA. 01104 or to American Cancer Society, 59 Bobala Road, Holyoke, MA. 01040.
