Helen A. (Burow) Ryan, 96, of Crocker Ave died Saturday, January 26, 2019 at the Buckley Health Care Center in Greenfield. She was born in Listonburg, PA on October 12, 1922, the daughter of Edward and Ida (Clemence) Burow.
Helen grew up with her brothers and sister in a small town near coal mining country, Listonburg, PA. After high school, she moved to Ventura, CA where she worked for several years. Towards the end of WW II, she moved to Baltimore and met her husband Francis "Pat" Ryan. They lived in Glens Falls, NY, then Greenfield, and settled in Northampton where she raised her family and lived for over 50 years.
Helen loved life, her family and many friends. She was an expert seamstress, bridge player, and world traveler, especially after her retirement from the former Northampton Institution for Savings in 1992.
Among her survivors, Helen leaves a daughter, Patricia A. Ryan and husband William Brown of Turners Falls; a son, James P. Ryan and wife Maryann of Northampton; a brother Robert Burow of Oklahoma City; and many nieces and nephews.
Helen was predeceased by her husband of thirty-two years, Francis P. Ryan; brothers Dale, Freddie, Carl and Eddie Burow and her sister June Hawkins of Baltimore.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 2 at 10 am at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square, Turners Falls. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Greenfield.
