TURNERS FALLS –Carol A. (Shirtcliff) Demers 73, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2018 with her husband and children by her side.
She was born in Montague, MA on December 16, 1944, the daughter of Donald and Ruby (Delisle) Shirtcliff.
She was a graduate of Turners Falls High School. Carol owned & operated “Carol’s Beauty Nook” for 48 years & was a hair dresser for 56 years. Carol married Francis Demers on August 25, 1965. Besides her husband of 52 years, she leaves her 6 children, Jay Demers (CC) Robyn Polley (Gerry), Michael Demers (Lisa) and 3 step children Laurel Stafford (Doug), James Demers (Jennifer) and Thomas Demers (fiancé Lisa). She leaves 15 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
Carol was a member of Ladies of St. Anne’s and Our Lady of Peace Women’s group, member of the Loyal order of the Moose #997, Greenfield Emblem club, the Montague Women’s club. Town meeting member for many years, as well as a girl scout leader for several years. She enjoyed bingo, going to the casino, playing cards and bowling which she attended the National Women’s Bowling tournament for 32 years and was a past president of Franklin County Women’s Bowling Association. She also loved the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.
Carol leaves a sister Jean Thurber and several sister-in-law’s and brother-in-law’s as well as many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her parents & sister Marlene Bergeron & brother Russell Shirtcliff.
A Memorial Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Saturday (6-2-18) at 11 AM at Our Lady of Peace Church with Rev. Stanley Aksamit pastor officiating. Visiting hours will be from 8:30 Am -10:30 Am at Kostanski Funeral Home 1 Kostanski Square. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
