Betty (Farley) Kelly, age 100, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, at Buckley Nursing Home in Greenfield MA, on January 11, 2019. She was born October 10, 1918 in Montreal Canada and moved to New York City. She raised her three daughters in Queens, NY and Amherst, MA. She held many jobs including a glove girl at Saks Fifth Avenue, Bulova watch company and retired at the age of 63 from Shawmut Bank in Amherst, MA. After retirement, she moved to Turners Falls, MA and was one of the first residents of Park Villa apartments until February 2018.
Betty traveled extensively with her sisters and loved to share her experiences with family and friends. Always an avid learner, in retirement she enrolled in many classes at Greenfield Community College, even taking a class with her grandson. As a volunteer, Betty took great pleasure in teaching English as a second language to many foreign students. Even during her later years, she always kept abreast of new developments in current events and enjoyed discussing these with family and friends.
Betty was predeceased by two daughters, Ann Lee Gentile and Barbara Kelly. She is survived by her daughter Patricia K Lyman and her daughter-in-law Irene Soucie both of Turners Falls, her grandchildren Thomas C. Thornton Jr. and fiance Susan Bordeaux, of Bernardston, MA, Amanda L. Gavryck and husband Wayne of Greenfield, MA, Christine Mariani and husband Rico of Monson, MA, and Tad Gentile and wife Erica of Palm City, FL, and four great grandchildren.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the entire staff at Buckley nursing home for providing a warm and loving environment for Betty in her final days.
