Florence- Bernard” Bernie” Buteau, 80, passed away Tuesday, July 17,2018 at Care One Nursing Facility in Northampton. He was born in Greenfield on May 25, 1938, the son of Joseph and Dorothy (Cardwell) Buteau. Bernie attended Holy Trinity School and was a graduate of Greenfield High School Class of 1956. Following graduation, Bernie served for three years in the United States Marine Corp.
He worked at the Cooley Dickinson Hospital and the Veterans Administration in Northampton for thirty seven years before his retirement. Bernie was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Bernie’s greatest passions were his faith, music, and family get togethers. Family meant a lot to Bernie. Bernie was a proud member of the Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton choir and parish in Northampton. Bernie loved to listen and sing to music and cherished socializing with family and friends. Telling jokes to family and friends was a favorite past time. Bernie confronted his health challenges with his deep faith and positive attitude.
Bernie is survived by a brother, Tony and his wife Elizabeth of Manchester, NH; a sister Michelina Hurd and her husband Tom of Annapolis, MD; a sister, Veronica Tutunjian of Scituate; and a brother, Greg and his wife Beatrice from Cherry Valley, Ma; He also leaves six nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Bernie was predeceased by two brothers, Stephen and Thomas.
Funeral services will be held Monday 7/23 at 10:15am from the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal Street, Greenfield followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11am at Holy Trinity Church, 133 Main Street, Greenfield. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Greenfield.
Calling hours will be held Sunday afternoon from 1-3pm at the funeral home.
