Welcome to the memorial page for

Barbara L. (LeBeau) Shamo

September 29, 1949 ~ June 20, 2017 (age 67) 67 Years Old

Turners Falls- Barbara L. (LeBeau) Shamo, 67, of Prospect Street died Tuesday 6/20/17 at the Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.  She was born in Northampton on September 29, 1949, the daughter of Roland and Alice (Leonard) LeBeau. She graduated from high school in Hartford, CT.

She began her career at Aetna, starting in a secretarial position and working her way up to management.  She retired after being employed there for thirty two years.

Barbara’s interests were varied.  She and Ed loved taking day trips around New England from the coast of Maine to the mountains of New Hampshire and Vermont during fall foliage season.  Their home boasts a lovely garden, reflecting her love of flowers.  Visiting art fairs, galleries and museums was another one of their pleasures.  She was an artist in her own right, painting with oil, acrylic and water color.  She crafted beautiful porcelain dolls, both designing and making the clothes for them.  She enjoyed scrapbooking and designed one of a kind jewelry pieces, mostly with semi-precious stones.

Barbara treasured her friends and loved ones as we did her.  Her husband, Edward, was her soulmate.  Barb will be missed and there is a void in the space she had, though we’ll carry her in our hearts always.

Besides her beloved husband of thrirty three years, Edward Shamo, Barbara leaves a sister, Kathleen McGrath and her husband Kevin of Cape Coral, FL; two brothers, Roland LeBeau, Jr.  of Chesterfield and Gary LeBeau of Westhampton;  four step siblings, Michael and Patrick McKnight, Linda Sweeney and Alan Puchalski; two aunts, Irene Lovett of Florence, MA, and Kathleen Watroba and her husband Raymond of Windsor, CT; and several nieces and nephews.

A remembrance celebration will be held in Barbara’s garden at their home, 54 Prospect Street, Turners Falls, on Saturday 7/1  at 4pm.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701 or to Hospice of Franklin County, 329 Conway Street, Greenfield, MA 01301.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Kostanski Funeral Home.  Sympathy message available at www.kostanskifuneralhome.com.
