Robert J. (Zum) Zamojski, age 88, of 14 Dell Street, Turners Falls, passed away on April 5, 2024. He was born in Turners Falls, November 26, 1935. He was the son of Joseph and Stephanie (Konikiewicz) Zamojski. He graduated from Turners Falls High School, class of 1953, and had been a lifelong resident of Turners Falls.
He was originally employed by the Franklin County Trust Company of Greenfield, which, eventually merged with Shawmut Bank, for 37 years. He served in the U.S. Army for 3 years, attaining the rank of Specialist 5th Class (E5).
He was a communicant of Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish, where he served as an altar boy in his youth.
He was a charter member and former trustee of the Montague Lodge of Elks, member and treasurer of The Tadeusz Kosciuszko Society of Greenfield and member and treasurer of the Polish American Citizens Club of Greenfield. He was a former member of the Turners Falls Knights of Columbus, Athol Rotary Club and Orange Kiwanis Club. He also served as a past treasurer of the Franklin County Chapter of the American Red Cross and past treasurer of the Orange Business Association. He also served as a chairman for United Way Campaign in Turners Falls and Orange.
He enjoyed annual family vacations on Cape Cod and many family holiday gatherings. He enjoyed all sports, having played in local men’s fast pitch softball and basketball leagues. He was a huge Red Sox and Patriots fan, as well as an avid reader.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 62 years, Rosemary (Hanley) Zamojski, a sister, Janice Zamojski of Bourne, MA, son Michael Zamojski of Cape Neddick, ME, daughter Karen Zamojski of Brattleboro, VT, daughter Lynne Filanowski and husband, Christopher, of North Atttleboro, daughter Theresa Dempsey of Turners Falls, and daughter Joan Zamojski of Millers Falls. He also leaves 5 grandchildren, Erin and Meghan Casey, Joshua Dempsey and his wife, Skyla, Tarrah Dempsey, Jenavieve Filanowski, and 1 great granddaughter, Payton Dempsey. He also leaves behind a brother-in-law Jack Hanley and his wife, Linda, of Fort Meyers, FL, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday April 10, 2024, at 10 AM at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Czestochowa Cemetery. A calling hour will be held from 8:30 – 9:30 AM at Kostanski Funeral Home in Turners Falls.
