Elaine R. (Engelhard) Zimmerman, 91, of Hillside Ave passed away Wednesday April 3, 2024 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. She was born June 28, 1932 in Montague, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Fisette) Engelhard.
Elaine attended local schools and graduated from Turners Falls High School. She was an administrative assistant at the former Montague Rod and Reel where she became acquainted with George “Bama” Zimmerman on the company bowling team. They married in 1955 at the former St. Mary’s Church in Turners. George passed in 1997.
Elaine was an avid reader, needle-worker, puzzler, fiercely competitive gamer and talented scratch baker whose strength and independence served her longevity.
She leaves children: Kathleen Zimmerman (Chris), Michael Zimmerman (Will), James Zimmerman (Marcie) and Daniel Zimmerman (Jan); grandchildren: Hazel Peartree, Carlyn Perry, Ingrid Zimmerman, and Annika Zimmerman; and sisters: Alice Welcome and Ethel McCarthy (and son John) plus several other nieces and nephews.
Elaine was predeceased by her sister Margaret Spencer and husband Roy, as well as brothers in-law: Kenneth Welcome and Joe McCarthy.
Family would like to express their affection and gratitude for Ruth Viens whose longtime friendship and care was an essential support to their mother’s well-being. The thoughtful attention of neighbors was always appreciated.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday April 18, 2024 at 11 AM at Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square Turners Falls. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. A calling hour will be held from 10 AM until service time at the funeral home.
