Walter D Carlisle

Turners Falls- Walter Carlisle, 86, of Carlisle Ave died Sunday 2/5/17 at the Poet’s Seat Health Care Center after a period of declining health.  He was born in Turners Falls on December 12, 1930, the son of William and Ruth (Grant) Carlisle.  Walter was a graduate of Turners Falls High School Class of 1949, where he excelled in football and baseball. 

After graduating from high school, he served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War Conflict.  Upon his return home, he married the former Margaret Hanley and shared forty nine years of marriage together before her passing in 2004.

 During his life in Turners Falls, Walter served on the Zoning Board of Appeals and on the Prudential Fire Committee to build the new fire department building during the 1970s.  He was a charter and lifetime member of The Montague Elks Lodge #2521.  Walter also coached his sons’ Newt Guilbault baseball team (the Eagles) for eight years and thoroughly enjoyed attending all of his children’s sporting events.

Walter had a thirty year career with the New England Telephone Company starting with the “Line Gang” and ending as a contract work inspector.  After his retirement, Walter enjoyed spending his time travelling and working on his wood pile while smoking a fine cigar.

Among his survivors, Walter leaves three children, Colleen Carlisle and her husband Jerry Wondoloski; Thomas Carlisle, Timothy Carlisle and his wife Gina, all of Turners Falls; and his grandchildren, Samantha, Timothy Walter,  Amanda,  Alex, Rileigh, Carson,  Jarod, Nathan and Adam.

Funeral services will be private.  Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New England Hospice, 190 Old Derby Street, Suite 304, Hingham, MA 02043 or to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Triad Department, 160 Elm Street, Greenfield, MA 01301.
