Wallace Wysk

April 27, 1930 ~ January 9, 2018 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Bernardston- Wallace Wysk, 87, of Brattleboro Road died Tuesday 1/9/18 at home.  He was born in South Deerfield on April 27, 1930, the son Peter and Mary (Nadolny) Wysk. He was the sixteenth out of eighteen siblings. Wally was a graduate of Deerfield High School Class of 1948. 

 

Besides his wife of 66 years, Eunice (Freniere) Wysk, Wally leaves three daughters, Linda of California, Donna of Orange and Susan of Bernardston; two sons, David of IN and Kenneth of Bernardston; twenty two grandchildren, thirty eight great grandchildren, eight great great grandchildren and numerous extended family members.   He was predeceased by two sons, Wallace S. Wysk and Robert Wysk and a granddaughter Elissa Lahoski.

 

Wally went into the United States Navy in December 1948 and served for twenty years until his discharge in 1968.  He was an ACC Chief Petty Officer as an Air Traffic Controller.  He served aboard four ships and travelled to many places.  He wore his uniform proudly because he believed in honoring his country.  Upon discharge, he worked for Lea & Deane Builders and found he liked carpentry.  He did many carpentry jobs over the years.  In 1970, he decided to try something new and that’s when the gas station in Bernardston became Wally’s Sunoco for nine years.  After closing Wally’s Sunoco, he opened   B & W Auto Repair Shop in Greenfield with his son Bob.  Through his retirement years, he worked for LaSalle’s Florist and other odd jobs.  His volunteer work including coaching and umpiring in the Bernardston Little League and as a proud member and president of the Bernardston Vet’s Club.  He proudly led the town’s Memorial Day parades as Grand Marshall for many years.

 

Through his life, Wally loved the outdoors.  He had interest s in hunting, fishing, boating and gardening – especially flowers.  He loved reading atlas’ and did crossword puzzles to keep his mind sharp.  He loved doing things for other people.

 

Calling hours will be held Sunday, January 21st from 1-3pm at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal Street, Greenfield.  Military honors will be observed by the United States Navy at 3pm at the funeral home.  Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
