Thomas C Kurtyka Sr

Montague------Thomas C. Kurtyka Sr., 80, of Turners Falls Rd. died Tuesday (3-27-18 at home.

He was born in Montague May 27, 1937 the son of Charles and Frances (Behilo) Kurtyka Sr.

Tom attended local schools and was a graduate of Greenfield High School. He was a mechanic having worked for Mohawk Chevrolet, Don Lorenz and Boston and Maine Railroad. During his retirement Tom worked for Rose ledge Companies.

He was a member of the Massachusetts National Guard for 12 years. Tom joined the Lodge of Masons in 1978 and in 2017 he received The Joseph Warren Award. He was a life member of the Loyal Order of Moose.

Tom enjoyed farming and tinkering.

His wife of 43 years Marilyn Jean (Sawin) Kurtyka predeceased him April 17, 2015.

Tom is survived by his children, Tom Kurtyka Jr., John Kurtyka, Sharon Williams, Sara (Karin) Powers, Tracy (Joe) Herrin, Michael (Kathy) Fuller. One brother Kenneth. Twelve grandchildren: Johnny, Chrissy, Katie, Sara, Patrick, Anthony, Shawna, Hannah, Nicole, Jessica, Summer and Noah. Ten great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held Saturday April 7, 2018 at 11am at the First Congregational Church of Montague. Burial will follow in Elm Grove Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday April 6, 2018 from 5pm-7pm at Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square, Turners Falls. An Ever Green Service conducted by the Lodge of Masons will be at 6pm followed by a service with the Loyal Order of Moose.
