Theresa (Fugere) Ferland

August 18, 1926 ~ November 26, 2017 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Turners Falls- Theresa A. (Fugere) Ferland, 91, of 10 Fourth Street died Sunday 11/26/17 at the Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield.  She was the daughter of the late Edward J. and Rose Belle Fugere. Theresa was born in  the family home on Third Street and was a lifelong resident of Turners Falls.  She attended St. Anne’s Parochial School, Turners Falls High School and Northampton Commercial College.  Before her marriage, she was employed for six years at The Recorder as secretary to the General Manager, H.I. Jenks.  She married her beloved husband Vincent Ferland in St. Anne’s Church in 1951.

Theresa was proud of her six children; Monique Charest, Michelle Porter, Lee Ferland, Judith Ferland, Lucie Muhlfelder and Jacques Ferland; Theresa also leaves two brothers, Maurice and Donald Fugere; three grandchildren, Benjamin Egan, Kelly Melnik and Julie Craig; four great grandchildren, Malcolm Egan, Jaden, Sofia and Cole Melnik; two sisters in law in Canada; and many nieces and nephews.

Theresa was predeceased by her husband of fifty four years, Vincent in 2005 and by two siblings, Raymond and Pauline.

Except for her operation for her brain tumor in 1990, Theresa was blessed with excellent health throughout her life.

For over 25 years, Theresa was an enthusiastic member of The Box Project, a non-profit organization that gives material aid to poor families in Mississippi.  More recently for nine years she also bought yearly over 200 winter jackets from tag sales and flea markets and gave them to t he non-profit organization, Valuing Our Children of Athol.  She took great pleasure in being a supporter of the pantry at the Franklin County Survival Center since January of 2005, and for two years accompanied her daughter, Judy, and gave donations to NELCWIT and acknowledged her husband Vincent’s assistance until his death, in all her projects.

Theresa loved reading, especially political books and articles and enjoyed walking on the bike path.

She was a parishioner at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church in Turners Falls since 1994.

 A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 10am at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church . Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

There will be no calling hours.
