Greenfield- Robert Ryan “Bob” O’Malley of 46 Warner St and 33 Power Square Greenfield died April 24, 2018. He was born in Greenfield, Massachusetts on August 23, 1961 to John R. and Gertrude R. (Bostley) O’Malley.
Robert graduated from Path Finder High School Palmer in 1983. He participated in Special Olympics Games and was a proud medal winner.
Over his lifetime Robert lived in area group homes through ServiceNet. The last ten years of his life Robert lived with his shared living provider, Chris Arena. Robert participated in work programs through Riverside Industries, ServiceNet and Community Enterprises. He was a diligent worker.
Robert was a happy, polite, respectful fellow and greeted people with a warm welcoming smile. He was loved by all who knew him and always had a hug for the ladies and a handshake for the men.
Robert looked forward to summertime, which always brought his birthday, swimming and concerts with his favorite band, The Beach Boys. He also loved to travel, going many places with his family and care providers.
In later years Robert was a member of the Moose Lodge and enjoyed bingo and many dinner dances. He frequently could be found at the library and the movies.
Most of all, Robert loved spending time with his family. He took great pride in his Irish heritage.
Robert is survived by his sister, Mary Figoli of Greenfield; brothers John “Dick” O’Malley and Nancy Morse of CT and Paul O’Malley of Florida; a sister-in-law, Tami (Aubrey) O’Malley of Turners Falls; nieces Gina and Cyd Figoli of Maine, Margaret “Meg” O’Malley of Florida; and nephews Sean O’Malley of Connecticut and Chase O’Malley of Florida. Robert was predeceased by his parents, a brother, Michael O’Malley, a brother-in law, Paul Figoli, a sister-in-law, Lisa O’Malley, and a niece Amy O’Malley.
The Figoli and O’Malley families would like to express their gratitude to all the people and organizations that supported Robert throughout his life. A special thank you to Chris Arena and Tom Paquette for opening their home and sharing their life with Robert. We are very grateful.
There will be no funeral services. A private burial service will be held at Calvary Cemetery, alongside Robert’s parents, at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made in Robert’s name to the GVNA HealthCare, Inc., c/o The Activities Program, 489 Bernardston Rd, Suite 207, Greenfield, Massachusetts 01301, where Robert attended his last few years.
