Welcome to the memorial page for

Robert Farrington

July 16, 2016

Greenfield - Robert G. Farrington, 82, of Leyden Road died Saturday, July 16, 2016 at the Buckley Healthcare Center in Greenfield.  He was born in Colrain on January 14, 1934, the son of George and Jennie (Fairbanks) Farrington.

In October 1956 he enlisted in the United States Army, but received an honorary medical discharge due to ear problems. He really wanted to stay to serve our country.

On October 31, 1958 he married Elinor Worden and they celebrated their 57th anniversary last year.

Bob left school after the ninth grade to work in the woods logging with his father. He later went back to school at Mahar Regional where he received his high school diploma in the 1960's

He had many other jobs prior to joining Berkshire Gas Company to provide for his family. He retired as a plumber, pipefitter, and first class servicemen in 1995 after 30 years of employment.

After his retirement, he put in many contented hours at Moore’s Corner Church in Leverett, MA, where he worshiped. He was instrumental in rebuilding the steeple so the bell could be rung again. He co-built the wheelchair ramp and the cross above the pulpit was his heartfelt creation.

Bob loved nature. He grew up on a farm where for years they used work horses and raised their own food as well as making maple syrup for which they were well renowned. He was an extremely proficient and talented lumberjack with a steadfast work ethic. Before being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease he loved hiking, camping, woodworking, photography, his motorcycles and mountain biking. He was a skilled hunter and was at home in the woods.

Besides his wife, Elinor (Worden) Farrington of Greenfield, Bob leaves four children; Marcus Farrington and his wife Nancy of Turners Falls, Marcel Farrington and his wife Lesa of Middletown, CT, Micah Farrington of Maine, and Maria Farrington of Greenfield; seven grandchildren, Ajah, Julia, Olivia, Trever, Karen, Daniel and Jacob; two great grandchildren, Isabel and Lorelei, two brothers, Richard Farrington and his wife Shirley and Roger Farrington and his wife Doris both of Colrain.  Bob also leaves his faithful Shih Tzu pet and emotional service dog, Hercules.

A memorial service will be held Saturday 8/20 at 10am at Moore’s Corner Church, Church Street, Leverett, MA with the Rev. Phil Grant officiating.  Burial will be private and be held at the convenience of the family.

Visitation will be Saturday morning from 9:15 until the time of the service at Moore’s Corner Church.

Bob’s family would like to sincerely thank the entire Buckley Healthcare Center staff for their expert care and the love shown to him as well as to the patients who befriended him and his family during his stay. Every department and everyone there that he came in contact with was remarkable. His family is grateful to have spent the last four days of his life with him in his room. They were provided with meals, love and many other courtesies as well as tears and hugs upon his passing.

Many thanks to Hospice for all their care and expertise and for attending to his emotional and spiritual needs.

Thank you to Dr. Wayne Gavryck, his primary physician for being so attentive to Bob and his family.

Donations can be made to the Bob Farrington Scholarship Fund, for his grandchildren, at the Greenfield Savings Bank, 400 Main Street, Greenfield, MA 01301.
