Rev. Peter J. Sullivan, III

August 29, 1943 ~ June 25, 2017 (age 73) 73 Years Old

Rev. Peter J. Sullivan III, J.C.L. died Sunday June 25th at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, NY from cardiac arrest. He left this world with the prayers of the Church and surrounded by his family and his brother priests.

Peter III was born in Greenfield, Ma on August 29, 1943 to Dorothy (Dolly) Sullivan and Peter J. Sullivan Jr. He attended Catholic schools and graduated from Providence College. He did his seminary training at Our Lady of Angels in Glenmont, NY and was ordained a priest by Bishop Edwin B. Broderick on December 15, 1970 at St. Ambrose parish in Latham, NY. In 1987 he earned an Ecclesiastical Licentiate (J.C.L.) and civil Master’s degree in canon law from St. Paul’s University Seminary, Ottawa, Canada.

Peter III served a wide variety of pastoral assignments: associate pastor at St. Joseph’s in Scotia, NY, chaplain at Ellis Hospital, Director of Pastoral Care at St. Clare’s hospital, chaplain at Samaritan in Troy, associate pastor at St. Clare’s parish,  chaplain to the Sisters of St. Joseph in Latham and associate pastor of St. Mary’s parish in Crescent, NY.

From 1980 through 2015 Peter served the Diocese of Albany in the Tribunal office as auditor, Judge, Defender of the Bond and Adjutant Judicial Vicar. His work with Catholic Charities was most important to Peter. Peter’s life was that of service to the less fortunate and devotion to his faith.

Peter III  is survived by his sister Kathy Sullivan-Jenest, his brother Dan Sullivan and wife Joanne, his aunt Mildred Thompson as well as nieces Bethany Jenest,  Lucy Proulx and husband Daryl, nephews Mark Jenest and Jake Sullivan. We will miss his love and support while attempting to follow his example.

Per Peter’s wishes being followed: there will be a Liturgy of Christian Burial Funeral Mass at 10 am at Holy Trinity Church, 133 Main St. Greenfield ,MA on Saturday (7-8-17) with inurnment in Calvary Cemetery alongside of his parents.

There are no calling hours.
