It was a great pleasure for me to visit with a person who was a Professor in every sense of the word.

With great respect,
May his memory live long and prosper.

Ray's impact on this world was great and far reaching. He definitely left this world a much better place for us all. I cherish the times I spent with he and Lorna having lunch at the The Pub in Amherst and their home in Montague. Ray (and Lorna) helped fill a void in my life during my time in Massachusetts when I was away from my own father and family. The stories, oh the many stories that he shared with me...will be fondly remembered. Ray always closed each conversation with a message to say hi to my wife Roni and let her know that he and Lorna were thinking about her. His love for his family was great and evidenced in all of the conversations that we had together. His love, respect and admiration for Lorna is a model we should all strive for in our lives.

A remarkable and so so very intelligent teacher. Ray would laugh at me when I showed up at his presentations with both his new books for him to sign and his new editions of books he'd already signed for me! He and his wife Lorna made up just the greatest in Canine research and publishing teams. None of us will forget that sense of humor of his. My hope is that wonderful memories of Ray will fill the holes in the hearts of his family members. We join them in missing him.

Ray was a special friend and mentor to me. He took me under his wing and taught me so much about science and evolutionary biology. He and Lorna invited me into their home on several occasions and shared their collective knowledge and hospitality. That impacted my life in a positive way more than almost anything I have experienced. Rest in peace Ray and my heartfelt sympathies to Lorna and their wonderful family.

My deepest sympathies to Rays family and friends. Ray changed the world of dogs for many of us - giving us a deeper understanding of who dogs are - all dogs.
Thank you Ray for helping us understand - the dogs thank you. You will be missed by so many - Carolyn Barney

Sincere condolences to Ray's family. He was an amazing man, a mentor to thousands for his work (with his wife) on dogs. He was a pioneer and has a sassy sense of humor. The dog world will miss him, but will always remember him. He was a legend.

I've enjoyed Ray's humor, several of his books, a wonderful human to know.
Ray shared a lot of his knowledge and encouraged people to think and learn. He was such a wonderful teacher. He and Lorna and their teams at New Hampshire College, helped to make the history and nature of livestock guardian dogs more accessible and useful for wildlife conservation. His ideas on the evolution of dogs have reached many of around the world.

I send deep condolences to Ray's family, friends and wish the best of good things for all in this difficult, sad time. -Janice
