Turners Falls---Maria Mercedes (Williams) Melendez, 72, of the Farren Care Center died Sunday (6-18-17) at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

She was born in Fajardo, Puerto Rico Nov. 13, 1944 the daughter of Celio and Juanita (Morales) Williams.

She leaves her husband of 36 years Luis A. Melendez Sr., her son and daughter in-law Luis A. Melendez Jr. and Natasha Garcia all of Springfield and three grandchildren Gabriela M. Salazar, Nayjeli Mercedes Melendez, Anthony J. Melendez and great granddaughter Zoe R. Harper.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Iris Neryeda Ortiz.

Funeral services will be held Thursday (6-22-17) at 1pm at Kostanski Funeral Home 1 Kostanski Square Turners Falls. Burial will follow at St. Anne’s Cemetery.

A calling will be held from 12 noon until the time of service.
