Julie Marie (Fleming) Ringwood

Julie Marie Ringwood, of Greenfield MA, passed away on Friday, September 29, 2017 at Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility in Greenfield. She was born January12,1951 in Quincy, MA, to Walter and Mary (Devlin) Fleming. She leaves her son Phillip Ringwood and his wife Hayley Woodard of Turners Falls, MA. She was predeceased by her daughter Kristen Marie Ringwood .in March 27, 1993

Julie grew up in Quincy, MA and around Cape Cod and came to Western MA in the late 70s to start a family in Colrain. Julie was a woman of many talents and had a diverse work and volunteer work career that includes manufacturing, town tax collector, chocolate maker and elementary school tutor in the 80s. Later in life she returned to school with a focused intention to help others through social service work. She was community organizer for the Housing Alliance, Assistant Director at the Greenfield Community Land Trust, an Information & Referral Specialist at First Call for Help, a Counselor/Advocate at the Everywoman's Center, and held several volunteer and support staff positions throughout the years at Greenfield Community College. She also spent time serving on several agency boards, steering committees and taskforces in her quest to improve opportunities for her community.

Julie spent a large part of her life within the Recovery Community.  She was a founding member of the Recovery Project, and an active member the Grapevine and several meetings not only in Franklin County but around the state. She had a passion for helping people be the best version of themselves they could be.

Julie loved music and singing. She participated in several community and church singing groups including Unity in the Pioneer Valley, RLC/RP Recovery Singers and the choir at Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church. She also enjoyed working with yarn, and could often be seen making scarves, hats, handbags or adding frills to flip flops for local charities, children and friends.

A memorial service will be held at Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church on Saturday 10/28/17 at 11am. There will be a social hour at the church at 10am prior to the service, and a pot luck lunch after the service, both at the church. Burial will be private family event at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Saint Paul’s Helping Hand Fund, The GCC Foundation, The Recovery Project or DIAL/SELF Youth & Community Services.
