Greenfield-Joyce I. Sturtevant of Greenfield passed away Monday (11/27/17) at Buckley Health Care Center with her 2 daughters present. Leslie holding her hand and Carly via telephone, surrounded by her caretakers who had become her friends.

Joyce was the first born on September 15, 1951 in Weymouth, MA of Isabella T. (Henry) Rantanen and Richard B. Rantanen. Joyce was a graduate in 1969 of Silver Lake Regional High School in Kingston, MA.

An employee of Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream in Waterbury VT from 1995-2001 and later in life a home caretaker.

She was an avid reader and especially liked Khalil Gibran writings and poetry.  She was an advocate of prevention of cruelty to animals, she immensely appreciated nature and the outdoors as well as her music and TV.  She was of a giving heart whose joy was spending time with her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son George Michael Sturtevant, her 3 brothers, Richard B. Rantanen, Jr., Eric C. Rantanen and Mark J. Rantanen who recently passed on November 16, 2017.

She is survived by her beloved daughters, Leslie Anne Sturtevant of Quincy, MA and Carly J. Sturtevant of Hopkinton, MA, her nephew Eric M. Nelson of Vermont, her brother, Norman M. Rantanen of Greenfield and her sister Linda M. Rantanen of Greenfield as well as her many other loved nieces, nephews and cousins.

She will be remembered always and forever and achingly missed.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
