John Francis Berrigan

John Francis Berrigan, 84, of Greenfield, MA, formerly of Jamaica Plain, MA, died peacefully on March 15th.

Known as “Fran” to friends and family, he is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara (Clifford) Berrigan and four children: Anne Berrigan and spouse Eric Eisack of Cambridge, MA; Ellen Berrigan of Cambridge, MA; Gail Berrigan and spouse Hank Berry of Leverett, MA; and John Berrigan and spouse Lori Hruska, along with their daughters and John’s two special grandchildren, Lola and Trudie Berrigan, of Woburn, MA.

John attended Cheever grade school in Jamaica Plain, was a graduate of Boston College High School and graduated with a B.A. from Boston College and an M.B.A. from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, which he attended under the G.I. bill and graduated in 1959 in one of the first classes of the then newly-formed M.B.A. program.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955, and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War.

He began his career in finance at Curtis Wright Corporation in Woodbridge, NJ; worked as a traveling auditor with General Electric in Schenectady, NY, and later New York City; was employed as Comptroller with United Technologies and Pratt & Whitney Corporations in East Hartford and Southington, CT; and retired in 2004 as Assistant to the President from Delta Industries, based in East Granby, CT.

John served as a volunteer with C.E.R.T. (Community Emergency Response Team) in Greenfield, MA and was active as a local HAM operator (“KB1NOH”). He was an avid reader of the New York Times, interested in finance, travel, the arts, and history. He enjoyed camping, woodworking, yardwork and working in the garden, and learned how to sail in his 60’s.

No funeral services are planned. A private family celebration will be held in his honor.
