Greenfield—

Janice I. (Giguere) Bohonowicz, 57, of Green Street. passed away Saturday, 9-3-16 surrounded

by her loving family after a courageous battle against glioblastoma.

She was born in Greenfield July 12, 1959, the daughter of Walter and Evelyn (Hall) Gigue

re.

Following graduation from Mohawk Regional High School in 1977 she earned an Associates

Degree in nursing from GCC in 1981, after which she began working at Cooley Dickenson

Hospital, a position she held for thirty-four years until her illness forced retirement. In 2005,

while continuing to work, she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from UMass Amherst.

She was proud and very happy to be able to work with a medical and nursing staff full of people

she admired and many of whom became close friends.

Janice shared the last fifteen years with the love of her life, Bruce Bohonowicz. They were

married on February 3, 2001, and lived a life filled with outdoor activities, good food, friends, her

children and five very special grandchildren.

Physical fitness was a passion for Janice. She was remarkably fit, excelling as a competitive

runner and a recreational skier. She ran almost every morning from The Body Shoppe with a

group of people whose friendship she valued. She was a fixture on Greenfield roads where her

bright running clothes and beautiful smile were known to many motorists and pedestrians. Her

impressive competitive career included seven marathons and scores of shorter races.

Janice bicycled her whole life. She loved to ride the hills of Franklin County and she and Bruce

took multiple bike trips into Vermont with friends. Winters she served as a cycling instructor at

The Body Shoppe. She was an accomplished downhill skier, and loved to go off to Vermont with

a group of close friends. She loved to ski fast and had a passion for the mountains in winter.

Janice loved to read, and in September 2000 she started book club which has met monthly

ever since. It made her very proud to have created a group that read so much and enjoyed

sharing books with each other.

For Janice her five grandchildren were a joy. She loved being with them and watching them

develop into the happy, healthy kids she was so proud of.

She leaves behind her husband, Bruce, her mother Evelyn (Hall) Giguere, her children Peter

Bergeron and his wife Jennifer, and Kristina Bergeron, her sisters Cindy (Rod) Gamell, Marilyn
