Henry J. Burns Jr. GREENFIELD -- Henry J. Burns Jr., 67, of 40 Hastings St., died Monday (6-29-09) at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. He was born in Grafton on Jan. 9, 1942, the son of Henry J. Sr. and Ruth (Draleaus) Burns. He was a graduate of Greenfield High School and attended Greenfield Community College. He had been a resident of Greenfield most of his life. Henry was a patrolman for the Greenfield Police Department for 28 years, retiring in 1993. He served in the U.S. Army from 1960-1963 and was stationed in Korea part of that time. Henry was a life member of the Greenfield Lodge of Elks, where he was a current trustee and a life member of VFW Post 9874 of Northfield. He was involved with various fund-raising events for both organizations. Also, he was a longtime co-chairman of the Greenfield Elks Charity Golf Tournament. He was an associate member of the Polish American Citizens Club in South Deerfield. Henry was a frequent volunteer at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Leeds. He enjoyed golfing and Notre Dame sports. Survivors include his wife of 33 years, the former Marilyn J. Pulaski; two sons, Brandon Burns of Allston and Scott Bellows of Holyoke; two sisters, Nancy Ross of Greenfield and Mary Gail Flemming of The Villages, Fla.; a granddaughter, Hannah Bellows, and several nieces and nephews. A memorial Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Peace Church, 90 Seventh St., Turners Falls, Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be this evening from 5 to 8 at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St., Greenfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Franklin County Babe Ruth League, c/o President Jim Ewen, 6 Old Amherst Road, Sunderland, MA 01375.
