Greenfield- Helen D. (Dzierzanowski) Milewski, 92, of Petty Plain Road died Monday 2/19/18 at the Buckley Health Care Center in Greenfield. She was born in Greenfield on February 18, 1926, the daughter of Anthony and Mary (Piatkowski) Dzierzanowski. Helen attended local schools in Greenfield and was a graduate of Greenfield High School Class of 1943.
After high school, Helen worked at the Greenfield Tap & Die and went on to work for the Channing L. Bete Company for many years until her retirement in 1991.
Helen was married to Michael J. Milewski on August 30, 1947 in Sacred Heart Church. They were married for sixty seven years until his death on April 13, 2015.
Helen was a woman of faith. She was a member of the former Sacred Heart Church in Greenfield, serving as a member of the Sacred Heart Guild and the Holy Rosary Sodality. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace Church in Turners Falls and a member of the Our Lady of Peace Women’s Group.
Helen loved to cook for family and friends, especially Polish food. She loved cooking around the holidays and hosting many family dinners throughout the years.
Helen was a great crafter and loved to crochet. She made craft items and was known for her Christmas ornaments and afghans, donating them to the Scared Heart Guild and Our Lady of Peace Women’s Group bazaars.
Among her survivors, Helen leaves two daughters, Marilou Bartus and her husband John of Templeton and Cynthia Milewski of Greenfield; two grandchildren, Elisabeth Bartus of Templeton and Jonathan Bartus and his wife Jennifer of Phillipston; three great grandchildren, Parker, Carson, Sawyer; three sister in laws, Beverly Milewski of Turners Falls, Corrine Milewski of W. Hartford, CT and Sophie Wasielewski; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, Helen was predeceased by her five sisters, Josephine Roberts, Caroline Leveille, Laura Guay, Antoinette Zera and Jennie Cherwa.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Saturday 2/ 24 at 11am at Our Lady of Peace Church, 90 Seventh Street, Turners Falls. Burial will follow at Mater Dolorosa Cemetery in Greenfield.
A calling hour will be held Saturday morning from 9:45am until 10:45am at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square, Turners Falls.
