Turners Falls- Freeman P. Hawkes, Jr., 85, died Friday 4/6/18 at the Buckley Health Care Center in Greenfield. He was born in Hawley, MA on July 9, 1932, the son of Freeman Sr. and Gladys (Trench) Hawkes. Freeman attended Arms Academy and worked at the family sawmill in Hawley.
Freeman enlisted in the US Airforce and served during the Korean War. Following his military service, Freeman was employed as a machinist at the Kendall Mills Company in Colrain until his retirement.
Freeman was an avid sports fan, baseball and football his favorites. He took great pride in outdoor yard work, enjoyed family vacations on the Cape, walks at Look Park and cruising in later years.
Among his survivors, Freeman leaves two daughters, Tracy Tudryn of South Hadley, MA; Amy Griffin of San Clemente, CA; five grandchildren, Sarah Tudryn of VA; Jonathan Tudryn of CO; Emma, Addison and Liam Porter Griffin, all of CA.
Freeman was predeceased by his wife, Jean (Arnold) Hawkes and two brothers, Donald and Wendell Hawkes.
Funeral services will be private. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
There will be no calling hours.
