Frank J. Galvis

January 17, 1923 ~ April 27, 2017 (age 94) 94 Years Old

Turners Falls----Frank J. Galvis, 94, of Canal St. died Thursday 4-27-17 at Buckley Health Care Center in Greenfield.

He was born in Erving,  January 17, 1923 the son of Joseph and Anna (Worek) Galvis.

Frank graduated from Highland School in Millers Falls and attended Turners Falls High School.

He started working for Millers Falls Tool Company in Feb 12, 1941 what was later sold to Ingersol Rand for 43 years retiring May 4,1984. After retirement Frank worked part time for Deerfield Academy.

Frank was a parishioner of the former St. Mary’s Parish since 1948, the present Our Lady of Peace.

He liked all sports and was an avid Patriots and Red Sox fan. Frank was founding charter member of the Newt Guilbault Little League where he coached. He also coached Pony League and liked playing softball.

His favorite hobby was making Christmas logs for the cemetery. Gardening was a pleasure in the summer time. He was a member of the St. Stanislaus Society and a associate member of the St. Kazimier. Frank liked playing the casinos especially the poker machines. He enjoyed taking trips with his daughter and friends. 

Playing the dogs at Hinsdale was one of his favorite things to do.

He served in the US Navy. Frank was a cancer survivor having suffered the illness in 2010.

He leaves a son Mark and a daughter Jaqueline, three sister in-laws Constance Galvis, Charlotte Choleva and Mary Choleva, many nieces and nephews and his beloved cat Mickie who Jackie promised her dad that she would take care of her.

Frank was predeceased                by his wife Genevieve, two sisters Sophie Sojka and Helen Czarnechi , two brothers, Joseph and Chester.

Services will be Monday 5-1-17 at 9:15 am from Kostanski Funeral Home 1 Kostanski Square Turners Falls followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 am with the Rev Stanley J. Aksamit pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Czestochowa Cemetery. Calling hour will be held Sunday 4-30-17 from 4pm to 7pm at the funeral home.
