Emil J. Demars

March 5, 1936 ~ November 19, 2017 (age 81) 81 Years Old

Emil Joseph Demars, 81, of Walnut Street in Gill died peacefully Sunday evening, November 19, 2017, at home with his family by his side.

Emil was born in Montague on March 5, 1936 to the late Medora (Reil] and Emile A. Demars. He grew up in Lake Pleasant, attended local schools and graduated from Turners Falls High School Class of 1955. He served in the u.s. Navy from 1955 to 1959 serving on board the USS Intrepid and the USS Manley.

In 1962, he married Beverly L. Adie at St. Mary's church in Turners Falls. They enjoyed 55 years of marriage. He worked at Pratt & Whitney, construction, Millers Falls Tool Company, the Boston & Maine Railroad, and then Amtrak until his retirement.

He enjoyed riding and working on his motorcycles, driving his "Cool 54" Ford, reminiscing with other car enthusiasts at Cruise Nights, playing pitch with friends and family, watching NASCAR races, and attending his grandchildren's activities. With his family, he often traveled to his sister's house so that his children could spend time with their cousins, Patricia and John. He also attended many Reil, Adie and Murley family reunions. Emil, along with his good friends, was one the original founders of the Mohawk Ramblers Motorcycle Club.

Survivors include his wife Beverly; his children: Lisa Dumas and husband Maurice of Gill, Theresa Underwood and husband David of Wisconsin, Cathleen Demars of Gill, Christopher and wife Terri of Gill and Doreen Kwader and husband Kurt of Florida, his mother in-law Angelina Adie, along with eleven grandchildren, three great grandsons and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents and two sisters, June and Theresa.

Emil’s family would like to thank Hospice of Franklin County for their care and compassion.

Services for Emil will be held Saturday (11-25-17) at 11 AM at Kostanski Funeral Home 1 Kostanski Square Turners Falls. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Calling hours will be held from 9 AM until the time of services.
