So very sad to not be able to give Shane, Kerry, and Kathy Hammond a hug today as they say goodbye to one of my favorite people, Skip Hammond. I met Shane's father when I was 15, and he was the first adult who nurtured my sarcastic sense of humor - a real gift to a boy who was looking for role models. Skip and Kathy always seemed like the "cool" parents - they vacationed, went to dinner, attended events; I thought them the height of sophistication. Skip was caustically funny, and never let a moment go by without a sharp retort or biting remark to me, as he knew I could take it. After graduation I pierced my ear, and Skip famously called me "Earring" for the next DECADE. (He once even gave me a collection of studs as a joke - some of which I wore, much to his consternation.) Conversely - or maybe concurrently? - he would support me, take me aside to inquire about school or work or art or acting or whatever I was doing at the time. The last time I saw him, he took Alexis and I out to lunch to catch up, and it was as if no time had passed since those first sarcastic digs 32 years ago. I adore you Skip Hammond, and know that wherever you are, you are inflicting your wicked wit on whomever has the good sense to share a table with you. xoxo

I know it's a cliche', but it is true - Skip was one of a kind. He loved his family, his community, and helping others was his motto. He talked the talk about helping others and, more importantly, he walked the walk. We will all miss seeing Skip and his welcoming smile. RIP Skip Hammond. You were an angel down here. Now you can make Heaven an even better place. Sincere condolences and prayers to all who loved you, especially Kathy, Shane and Kerry.

Skip was a dear friend, classmate and always the bright spot in any room he entered. His smile and hearty greeting, even if he'd seen you the day before, was an expression of the joy he had in his life and his friends. Our sincere condolences to his family.

We always loved our family reunions with Skip and Kathy. Especially, when held at the Farm. They are very generous people. Always loved talking politics with Skip. He was very passionate. A true gentleman. Our deepest sympathies to the family.

To the Hammond family, please accept our heartfelt sadness upon learning of 'Skip's' passing. Never without a genuine smile and kind word, Skip was ever the ambassador of good will. I will miss hearing his horn and big wave and smile as he passed our home on his way to Bernardston. His legacy and memory will long be a treasure of our community.

Love and prayers to his family. What can I say...words don't seem to be enough when you lose one of your heros. Treated me with respect and kindness from the day we met, they don't make guys like Skip anymore. Such a loss in so many ways. If we live our lives so when we are gone people can only remember great things, then you succeeded. Rest easy my friend.
